Tuesday

On Tuesday we travelled to the "nearby" town of Jaca. After a long, windy journey up the mountains, we reached the monastery of San Juan de la Peña at the summit. We went around the ruins of the monastery however I think the Grosvenor pupils found a bug on the exit sign more interesting! Next we went down to the original monastery, we had a guided tour- impressively translated by Señora Salt! We even tested our Bible knowledge with the carved pillars showing Bible stories! Displaying our fantastic Cross- Curricular skills ;) however Señor Hunter was the champion at this.

After a quick pit-stop for lunch at the 'Albergue' we walked to the Ice Rink (used in the 2007 Youth Winter Olympics.) We got our skates on (most of us) and embarked on a slippery adventure across the ice! A special mention to Matty Carson for his graceful swan-like technique! The three teachers saved their pride by cheering us on at the side! 

Next, back in Huesca we went to the biggest Burger King in Europe (without a drive through) and allegedly the biggest zebra crossing in Spain! 

After which, some of the lower sixth pupils spent the evening in "El Local" the hangout with our exchange partners for the second night running. Only a hour later we were back in our homes and eating again! We were all well and truly thankful to see our beds that evening.

Monday (2)

Today we went to IES Piramide school, when we arrived at the school we got introduced to some of the teachers at the school. We went to the cafeteria afterwards and met up with our partners, next we went to class with our pairs, we got introduced to their class. The teachers arrived at the class and the lessons were taught, although they were in Spanish so we didn't understand anything. Many of the pupils in the school were very excited about our arrival and they were extremely interested in taking to us in English. Later on after school we went on a tour of Huesca, it was extremely interesting and we learnt much about the monasteries and the town hall of Huesca. Afterwards we went to the oldest shop in Europe, many students of the exchange were very curious about the hidden cave underneath the shop. The owner of the shop gave us permission to go downstairs to the underground cave. It was very educational and was a pleasure to visit. Once the tour had finished we had free time to have a browse in the shops with our friends. When it was time to go home, we all went our separate ways and had a pleasant but slightly awkward trip home haha ;).

Monday (1)

On Monday, we had our first day in school. We all had our own, let's say different, experiences. It gave us our first taste of what school life in Spain was like. Although different, they were definitely positive experiences and I am sure it will leave memories that we will never forget. Our first day in the school made us simply wonder what was to happen in the following days.

That evening we all met after dinner in the middle of Huesca for a tour of the town.  We visited the breathtaking cathedral (where we saw an organ that maybe even Mr Arnold would have trouble playing!)  It was a strange experience but enjoyable at the same time. After that we had a small tour of the town hall,  there  were on display four gigantic people figures that were used for carnivals and festivals. Afterwards there was a small talk but unfortunately, like the cathedral, it was all in Spanish but that didn't matter too much as the sights of the cathedral and town hall were enough to blow your mind! At the end of the day we managed to stumble upon the oldest shop in Huesca. I don't have much to say about the shop though. All In all it created good thoughts and left us curious for the next day, Tuesday.

Lunch in a nearby youth hostel and then off we went to the ice rink. Some hilarious videos to follow!
